Red’s first album whas an awesome one!
Therefore it was hard for me to believe the fact that the second album would live up to the first, but they have done it.
“Innocence & Instinct” is one awesome motherf*****.
Don’t let the fact that it is christian rock fool you, the guys deliver.
I can’t wait for theire third album to arrive

If you’re a fan of the first CD, you won’t be disappointed with this release. The songs are similar to their first CD but still have their own identity. The heavy songs are a little heavier and the lighter songs are a little lighter. There is even more maturity to the songwriting and arrangements, although there are no big show-stopping hits like the first CD had. A very enjoyable CD overall.

I am going to have to buck the trend here and say this CD isn’t any where near as good as the last one. I was so excited at the prospect of a new Red album but this one let me down. It felt to me like it never got going. No song just jumped out at me and said oh please play me again. It’s good but after the last release I expected more.

I came upon Red by circumstance, and liked their music once I sampled it. Once I read more reviews and learned that they were (supposedly) a so-called “Christian rock” group, I shrugged my shoulders and said, “Eh, no biggie.” As a former atheist, I have a knee-jerk reaction to fundementalist Christianity, especially when it is beaten upon me profusely via song lyrics. But when listening to Innocence & Instinct, and also End of Silence, I heard no such specicifity in the lyrics; just general messages of spirituality, angst, despair, hope, and questioning. It gets a “thumbs up” from me.
Having said that, the music is sometimes a little generic and faceless (as is most nu-rock in the mid to late 2000’s), but is well-written, excellently mixed, has wonderful vocals, and a good epic feel with the sound, imagery and artwork. Oh, and I absolutely love the cover of Duran Duran’s “Ordinary World.” I was 13 when the original came out, and this rendition brings me right back to the spring of ‘93.
